What Happened?

The lawsuit concerned a City of Oakland data security incident discovered in February 2023. The plaintiffs alleged that personal information was accessed and exfiltrated and that the City was legally responsible. The City denied wrongdoing. The proposed settlement offered claims-made benefits without a merits ruling.

Class members could seek up to $350 for ordinary losses, up to $10,000 for documented extraordinary losses, and credit-monitoring services. Qualifying police-officer class members could also receive $175.
