This was a nearly $9 million class action settlement with the makers of Breyers ice cream over allegations that some of their vanilla-flavored ice creams were sold under false pretenses. The lawsuit alleged that Conopco/Unilever's labeling of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream misled consumers by implying it contained vanilla flavor only from vanilla plants, when it allegedly contained non-vanilla "plant flavors." The Breyers ice cream makers denied the allegations but agreed to settle; the Court did not decide that they did anything wrong. The claim deadline was February 19, 2025 and has passed, so this page is now for informational and status purposes only.
The covered products included:
• Breyers Natural Vanilla Ice Cream in all sizes
• 1.5-quart (1.41L) carton
• 16-oz carton
• 10-pack of 3-oz cups
This covered all packaging and labeling variations used between April 21, 2016 and the Effective Date of the settlement, August 14, 2024.
